Retken alkumatka noustaan tunturikoivikossa sorapolkua pitkin. Puurajan tuntumassa portaat helpottavat jyrkimpiä nousuja, ja portaiden jälkeen reitti jatkuu osin kivikkoisena kohti Saanan huippua.
